Recall Ninja 250R

Make it a double recall Monday, because Kawasaki is recalling 259 Ninja 250R (EX250) motorcycles from the 2009 and 2010 model years. Apparently, porosity in the engine case could allow motor oil to leak from the engine, and be deposited on the rear tire.
Kawasaki decided to issue a recall after discovering a small number of upper engine cases for the EX250 could have porosity in their aluminum casting. This porosity occurs in the vicinity of a pressurized oil passage just above the transmission output shaft, and as a
consequence
motor oil leaking from this location can be deposited on the rear tire, thus increasing the chances of a crash.

To rectify the situation, Kawasaki dealers will inspect and check for leaks in the vicinity of the suspected porosity. Units showing signs of leakage will be repaired free of charge.
The safety recall is expected to begin on or about December 8, 2009. Owners may contact Kawasaki at 1-866-802-9381, and as always
owners may also contact the NHTSA’s vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236, or go to safercar.gov.
